The Big Pine Lady Warriors volleyball six held their own through the first two sets of play against the Immanuel Christian Crusaders Tuesday afternoon on home court. While the Warriors got some momentum going through the final two sets, they fell 1-3.
Big Pine’s final game will be this Saturday at 11 a.m. at home against the tough Trona Tornadoes.
The good news for Big Pine: the team is very young; everyone should be back in 2014 and this year has set a strong foundation for good things to come.
The Warriors proved they could put points on the board in game one. Big Pine sprang out to a 0-5 lead in the first game behind the power serves of Gena Lewis. The Warriors held onto the lead as the Crusaders warmed up, then launched another attack with Anah-Kee Mason on the line for a 9-17 advantage.
The Crusaders weren’t done, outscoring Big Pine 16 to 8 in the final minutes of play and taking the 25-21 win.
The two teams reversed roles in the second set. Neither could get a serve advantage until Big Pine got the side out with a 4-7 lead on the board. Mason delivered her signature power serves; Anna Huston aced her way to a 5-14 lead for the Warriors, then the Crusaders got the side out and roared back to within 4 points at 10-14.
This time the Warriors kept their focus and the momentum, battering away at Immanuel Christian to a 15-25 win.
The best that can be said for game three is that the Warriors were able come back from a 17-6 deficit to make it a game. Big Pine outscored the Crusaders late in the game but the hole was too deep to dig out of. Crusaders won 25-17.
Big Pine took the early lead in game four, breaking a tie with Mason on the line for a 4-8 lead. The Crusaders work at the net threw the Warriors off and Immanuel Christian took an 11-9 lead on a points run.
The Warriors matched that run to take a 2-point lead at 18-20, but the momentum was on the Crusaders side and they put the game and match away with a 25-22 win.
