Inyo County and the City of Bishop are in danger of paying tens of thousands of dollars in fines if commercial and certain rental property owners do not comply with the state-mandated Mandatory Commercial Recycling Law.
In order to decrease the amount of solid waste and increase the amount of recyclables in California landfills, the 2011 Assembly Bill  341, Solid Waste: Diversion, established the Mandatory Commercial Recycling Law. It requires owners of businesses that produce four or more cubic yards of waste per week and all multi-family dwellings with five or more units to provide tenants with recycle bins.
