A fire broke out at the Vagabond Inn at 1030 North Main Street in Bishop, prompting an evacuation of the hotel, nearby businesses, and a closure of Main Street from Wye Road to Sierra streets shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday. Officials at the scene said Main Street would likely be closed for much of the morning.
The Bishop Volunteer Fire Department, Big Pine Volunteer Fire Department, Independence Volunteer Fire Department, CalFire, Inyo County Sheriff's Office and Bishop Police Department all responded.
Sheriff Bill Lutze said that it appears all hotel guests were accounted for and injuries were minimal. Symons Ambulance Service did treat one individual who appeared to have suffered burns on his hands and another who suffered smoke inhalation.
