Born Sept. 13, 1924 in Panguitch, Utah to Hilda Vilate Prince and Jeddie Nephi Henrie, Ellice died peacefully at home in St. George on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. She was 86.
Ellice grew up in Panguitch then worked in Las Vegas during World War II where she met her eternal love, Howard Grant Whitney, while at a church meeting. Howard was enlisted in the United States Navy at the time and they were married on March 10, 1945 in the St. George Utah LDS Temple. Like so many great women of the time, she watched, waited, wrote letters of support and prayed for the safe return of her husband while he fought in the war.
After the war they moved to St. George. She then finished college in Logan. They moved to Delta, Utah then to Upland, Calif. and then ultimately settled in Lone Pine, where they lived for the next 50 years and raised their family of seven children. Ellice worked for 18 years as a teacher’s aide and had a great love for children. In 2006, they moved to St. George to be near the LDS Temple. Ellice’s beloved husband Howard passed away in St. George on Aug. 14, 2009 and was buried in the St. George City Cemetery where Ellice will now be by his side in death, as they were in life for 64 years of marriage.
Ellice was also preceded in death by her oldest son, Ralph.
She is survived by her daughters, Lucile and Elyce; sons, Kent, Kim, Joel and David; her brother, Frank; and sister, Vira.
