Valley softball season ends in CIF round one

May 17, 2013

The Bishop Lady Broncos softball team fell, 3-13, to the Shadow Hills Knights Thursday afternoon in the first round of CIF Division 6 playoffs.
“Unfortunately the score does not reflect what a good game it was,” said coach Stacy Van Nest. “We came ready to play but were out-hit and had some defensive errors. But we never gave up. The game was not out of reach until the bottom of the sixth. I’m proud of every girl on this team for an outstanding season.”

BombFest tourney rocks Millpond

May 17, 2013

The sixth annual Bomb-Fest Slow Pitch Softball Tournament played out last weekend at Millpond with the men’s teams battling it out on Saturday, followed by the coed teams on Sunday.
A lot of the names and faces were familiar, with Sweetwater, Reds and Mad Batters among the seven men’s teams competing for the tournament championship.
The champions of both the men’s and coed divisions, however, were teams from Northern California: Deaf Row, men’s champion, and Judoknome, coed champ.
Both teams, as well as one additional coed contender, were made up of hearing-impaired players.

Broncos’ bats batter the bugs

April 29, 2013

That the Bishop Broncos baseball team beat the Desert Scorpions Friday afternoon at Edwards Air Force Base is not much of a surprise. That they beat them 20-1 is significant. The resurrection of the Broncos’ bats at home against Rosamond last Tuesday was no fluke. The Bishop bats are back.
And, they’ll get another good workout at California City this afternoon before hosting the two High Desert League teams that handed Bishop back-to-back road losses two weeks ago.

Lady Broncos rally with 14-4 win over Desert

April 29, 2013

The Bishop Lady Broncos softball team came back from its loss to the undefeated Rosamond Roadrunners, demolishing the Desert Scorpions on the road, 14-4, Friday.
“The girls did well under hot conditions and varying field positions,” said coach Stacy Van Nest. “We still continue to work hard to diminish defensive errors.”
The Broncos travel to Cal City this afternoon, then host Frazier Mountain, Friday, and Kern Valley, Tuesday. Bishop is 5-1 in High Desert League, 11-7 overall.
