Angler: get checked for Quaggas

Quagga mussels create a shell around the propeller of a boat taken for a spin in infested Lake Mead. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Crowley Lake Fish Camp are working to stop infestation from happening here. Photo courtesy National Park Service

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is currently conducting boat inspections in the Bishop Vons/Kmart parking lot. All boats that will be launched on Crowley Lake this fishing season must be inspected to ensure that no invasive Quagga mussels are hitching a ride into local waterways.
The invasive bivalves have caused millions of dollars of damage to waterways throughout the nation, but thus far, the Eastern Sierra has been spared, and the LADWP hopes to keep it that way.
