Man suffers major injuries in wreck near Big Pine

The driver of an SUV was sent to the hospital Thursday following a single vehicle collision near Big Pine. At approximately 11:55 a.m. a solo vehicle traffic collision occurred on southbound U.S.395 south of Aberdeen Station Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol news release, for unknown reasons, the driver allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway where it traveled into the center divider and collided into a rock pile. Following its collision with the rock pile, the vehicle began a roll-over sequence and eventually came to rest within the No. 1 lane of the roadway. The 85-year-old driver from Long Beach was transported to Northern Inyo Hospital by the Big Pine Fire Department for treatment of major injuries.
