Thunderstorms likely this weekend

Despite anticipated high temperatures, the National Weather Service is also forecasting scattered thunderstorms in the Eastern Sierra throughout the weekend – and is urging anyone recreating outdoors to be vigilant about the threat of lightning strikes.
According to the NWS, heavy rain with localized flash flooding is possible Saturday and Sunday in the Sierra and Western Nevada. Other threats include abundant lightning, small hail, erratic wind gusts up to 50 mph and rapid drop in temperatures.
“For recreationalists in the Sierra this weekend, hypothermia can be a real threat. Temperatures can quickly drop by 30 to 40 degrees under thunderstorms in combination with very heavy rain,” the NWS reports. “Remember – No place outside is safe from lightning! If you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.Thunderstorms can develop quickly. If you plan on being outdoors, have a plan for thunderstorms.”
