Bingo at Senior Center
AARP is offering bingo at 1 p.m. at the Bishop Senior Center behind the City Park. Everyone age 18 and older is welcome to attend. Callers and cashiers are needed. For more information, call (760) 873-5839.

Friends of the Bishop Library
The next meeting of the Friends of the Bishop Library will be at 4 p.m. at the Bishop Library, 210 Academy Ave., (760) 873-5115.

2015 Haunted Bookstore
Pirates and Mermaids of all ages are invited to the Spooky Lagoon at Range & River Books for the store’s annual ghost story celebration from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  There will be treats, treasure, games and crafts, and plenty of bleak and spooky stories. It is free. There will be a donation basket for those who want bring non-perishable food for community food closets.  Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Preschool proposal
Owens Valley Unified School District is partnering with Discovery Pointe Preschool and will be holding a meeting to explore if there is enough interest in the community to open a preschool in Independence. The meeting will be from 6-7 p.m. in the MPR. All interested may attend. For more information, Shanna White at (760) 258-1333.

Miss and Miss Teen Bishop
The first class and orientation for Miss and Miss Teen Bishop will be at 6 p.m. in the Executive Conference Room at City Hall. Classes are schedule to work with all participants on speech, confidence building, goal achievements and professional presentation. Auto 101 Adult Class
Bishop Union High School will be offering an Auto 101 Adult Class from 6-8:30 p.m.  Adults of all levels of experience are encouraged to enroll. There is a $100 semester fee and the class is limited to 15 students. This class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec.17. The basics of automotive safety, equipment use and auto maintenance will be the course of study. Astronomy Lecture series
Cerro Coso Community College and the Owens Valley Radio Observatory present the Astronomy Lecture Series, Scientific Talks by Scientists from NASA/JPL and OVRO from 7-8 p.m. Joseph Lazio (NASA/JPL) discusses “Surfing the Waves! 100 Years of General Relativity.” Cerro Coso Community College, Bishop campus, 4090 W. Line St.
