The Wilkerson Fire Safe Council’s first Defensible Space Workdays on July 18 and 19 were a resounding success.

Thanks to the sponsorship of Edison International and the California Fire Safe Council, large dumpsters were available all weekend to receive green waste brought by residents of Old and New Wilkerson. In all, 5.75 tons of debris were collected and Wilkerson community residents are excited to see multiple benefits of pulling together around wildfire prevention.

Volunteers monitored dumpsters and assisted neighbors needing help to clear and haul plant debris.

All volunteers were entered in a drawing for gift cards to local businesses. The lucky winners were Rick Rogers, Marianne Brettell-Vaughn, Justin Davis, Lana Morris and Lisa Sims.

The Wilkerson Fire Safe Council offered special thanks to Joe Dell, Bishop Volunteer Fire Department chief and Wilkerson Fire Safe partner. For more information, write to contact@firesafewilkerson.com or call Jenny Rowe at (760) 873-7324.
